Chemical dependency affects individuals, as well as families and other systems within which the individual operates. Families, peer groups, work colleagues, and schools are all examples of systems often influenced by chemical dependency related behaviors. Families are typically impacted the most, in part because of the amount of time the chemically dependent individual spends with family members and the obvious emotional ties within the family.
The Dilworth Center Family Program recognizes the significant influences families have on both the progression of the disease and the recovery process. The importance of family participation in the treatment of chemically dependent family members cannot be overstated, especially with adolescents and young adults. Family program participation is required for parents and guardians of our adolescent and young adult patients. Family members of adult patients are strongly encouraged to participate.
Family treatment at the Dilworth Center consists of education and support including:
- Classroom Instruction
- Group Therapy
- Family Conjoint Sessions - Family Conjoint Sessions are designed to impact the health and operation of the family system and are scheduled on an as needed basis.
- Al-Anon and Nar-Anon - Throughout the Family Treatment Program, parents or guardians of adolescent and young adult family members are required to attend at least one Al-Anon or Nar-Anon meeting each week. Family members of our adult patients are also strongly encouraged to become involved in these support groups on a weekly basis.
Family members attend Family Treatment once a week on Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings.
